A History of Innovation, Commitment, and Hope
The brain tumor program at Duke, established in 1937, was one of the first brain tumor research and clinical programs in the United States. Internationally recognized as a leader in the research and treatment of brain tumors, it is the largest and most successful of its type in the nation and currently cares for more than 1,000 patients with brain tumors—pediatric and adult—who have come to Duke from all over the world.
The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke has a strong critical mass of outstanding investigators focused on all aspects of brain tumor research including basic, clinical, and translational—moving promising treatments from the laboratory to the bedside. Duke houses one of only three Federal brain tumor research programs funded by the National Institutes of Health. The Center is dedicated entirely to the treatment and cure of brain and/or spinal cord tumors in children and adults.
